The Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Mr. Al-Qasir, has announced the opening of Moroccan markets to Egyptian potatoes and Canadian markets to strawberries, as part of the Ministry's efforts to expand international markets for Egyptian agricultural products.
This announcement follows a report received by Mr. Al-Qasir from Dr. Saad Moussa, supervisor of the Egyptian agricultural quarantine, confirming the successful opening of the Moroccan market to Egyptian potatoes. The Moroccan agricultural authorities have officially agreed to import Egyptian potatoes, and exports have commenced.
Additionally, the report highlights the successful opening of the Canadian market to Egyptian fresh strawberries for the first time. All necessary procedures for Canadian market entry have been completed, enhancing the agricultural sector's contribution to Egyptian national income. The Ministry is taking steps to continue opening other international markets to Egyptian agricultural products, which are in high demand worldwide due to their quality and compliance with phytosanitary requirements.
Egyptian agricultural exports exceeded 2.2 million tons, valued at $1.5 billion, in the first quarter of this year, representing a $300 million increase compared to the previous year. Despite global and regional challenges affecting supply chains, agricultural exports remain a significant source of foreign exchange for Egypt.
