Explosion on YM Mobility Vessel at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port
31 Aug 2024
A major explosion occurred on the container ship "YM Mobility," owned by the Yang Ming shipping line, while it was berthed at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in China. Sources indicated that the explosion took place on the dock rather than at sea, which spared the crew and the vessel from greater danger.
The explosion happened in a refrigerated container carrying hazardous materials, but all crew members were safe, and no injuries were reported.
It is worth noting that the "YM Mobility" vessel flies the Liberian flag and operates between the Far East and the Middle East through CGX services.
The incident led to some negative impacts, most notably the temporary closure of several terminals, which caused congestion and delays in operations and supply chains. Additionally, shipping rates experienced fluctuations, further increasing the pressure on traders who are facing risks of stock depletion and production delays.
