Mawani and CMA CGM Sign Agreement to Develop Fourth Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port with SAR 1.6 Billion Investment

The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced the signing of an agreement between Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) and France's CMA CGM Group to develop and operate the fourth container terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, with investments of around SAR 1.6 billion. The project targets raising the terminal's handling capacity to approximately 2.6 million TEU per year. The scope includes developing deep-water berths capable of receiving the latest generation of ultra-large container vessels, along with advanced operating technology and ten new ship-to-shore cranes. The agreement forms part of the wider development plan for Jeddah Islamic Port and its ability to attract global carriers and services, which in turn affects the handling capacity available to Saudi importers and exporters and cargo turnaround times at the port.

MSC Expands HIMALAYA EXPRESS Service to Include Ports in Saudi Arabia and Egypt

MSC has decided to expand its HIMALAYA EXPRESS service, which connects the Indian subcontinent with Europe and the Red Sea, by adding Abu Qir port in Egypt along with King Abdullah Port and Jeddah Islamic Port in Saudi Arabia, and adjusting the rotation to include Turkey. Vessels on the service will continue sailing via the Cape of Good Hope without transiting Bab el-Mandeb. The updated rotation is: Valencia, Barcelona, Gioia Tauro, Abu Qir, King Abdullah, Jeddah, Aliaga, Valencia, Sines, Las Palmas, Colombo, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Vizhinjam, Las Palmas, Sines, and back to Valencia. The addition of Abu Qir gives Egyptian shippers a further direct link to the Indian subcontinent and Europe within the service network.

PIL Launches New Service Connecting Safaga and Sokhna Ports with Jeddah Islamic Port

PIL has announced the launch of its new IRF service, connecting Safaga port and Sokhna port in Egypt with Jeddah Islamic Port in Saudi Arabia. The service is deployed with a vessel of up to 1,261 TEU capacity. It adds a direct option for cargo movement between Egypt's Red Sea ports and the Saudi market, a corridor relied on by a large number of Egyptian exporters in food, building materials and manufacturing. The Saudi Ports Authority stated that the addition strengthens Jeddah Islamic Port's position as a main hub for maritime connectivity on the Red Sea.
