NYK-owned container ship operating for ONE collided with a Maersk vessel

On Friday evening, February 28, a containership owned by NYK and operating for Ocean Network Express (ONE) collided with a Maersk vessel while maneuvering into Hong Kong’s port. The incident resulted in three containers falling from the Maersk vessel into the harbor, but authorities confirmed there were no injuries.

The ONE Columba, a Japan-registered vessel weighing 138,611 dwt, was arriving from China’s Shenzhen port to Hong Kong’s Kwai Chung Container Terminal. During the maneuver, the bow of the vessel struck the side of the docked Maersk containership, which was positioned at a 90-degree angle.

The ONE Columba, measuring 364 meters in length with a capacity of 14,000 TEU, caused container stacks on the Maersk vessel to shift, leading to three containers falling into the water. The Hong Kong Marine Department reported on Saturday that the containers were successfully retrieved from the harbor.
