Reports say a container ship carrying more than 2,500 containers sank in waters south of the Strait of Hormuz after hitting a sea mine and catching fire.
According to sources, the vessel was trying to pass through a route described as unauthorized.
The incident comes as security risks to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz area have increased in recent days.
