The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced the signing of an agreement between Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) and France's CMA CGM Group to develop and operate the fourth container terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, with investments of around SAR 1.6 billion. The project targets raising the terminal's handling capacity to approximately 2.6 million TEU per year.
The scope includes developing deep-water berths capable of receiving the latest generation of ultra-large container vessels, along with advanced operating technology and ten new ship-to-shore cranes. The agreement forms part of the wider development plan for Jeddah Islamic Port and its ability to attract global carriers and services, which in turn affects the handling capacity available to Saudi importers and exporters and cargo turnaround times at the port.
