MSC announced new Emergency Fuel Surcharges (EFS) on shipments from the Red Sea and East Africa to European destinations, effective 1 June through mid-June 2026, citing rising bunker fuel costs and reduced fuel availability at traditional bunkering ports driven by ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
EFS rates from the Red Sea:
- North Europe and UK: $140 dry / $210 reefer
- Baltic and Scandinavia: $200 dry / $305 reefer
- West Med and Adriatic: $100 dry / $145 reefer
EFS rates from East Africa:
- North Europe and UK: $260 dry / $390 reefer
- Baltic and Scandinavia: $325 dry / $485 reefer
