Maersk announced a new heavy weight surcharge on containers shipped from Far East countries to Europe and the Mediterranean, effective 25 May 2026. A surcharge of $400 will apply per 20ft container exceeding 25 tonnes.
The surcharge covers shipments originating from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Maersk noted that Asia-Pacific shipping markets continue to face uncertainty, driven by security developments in the Middle East and their ongoing impact on major trade corridors, pushing carriers to make continuous adjustments to their networks and services.
