Amid rapidly evolving security developments in the Gulf region, MSC announces the suspension of all new bookings to the Middle East until further notice.
CMA CGM issues instructions for vessels to move to safe areas, suspends Suez Canal transits, and reroutes vessels via the Cape of Good Hope.
The company also imposes an emergency conflict surcharge:
- USD 2,000 per 20-foot container
- USD 3,000 per 40-foot container
- USD 4,000 per reefer container
Maersk also reroutes its services around Africa instead of using the Suez Canal.
These developments are expected to lead to:
- Congestion at alternative ports
- Bottlenecks in Asian ports
- Suspension of new bookings by some carriers
- Rapid increase in freight rates
