Important update on Rules of Origin with the European Union

Important update for exporters and importers dealing with Europe:

1. Official decision:
Starting 1 January 2026, the Egyptian government will temporarily accept European certificates of origin (EUR.1 and EUR-MED) for a period of three months, or until the final ratification of the new regional agreement on rules of origin.
The aim is to facilitate exports and avoid shipment delays.

2. Required documents:
To benefit from customs exemptions when exporting to Europe:

  • EUR.1 certificate

  • Or an Origin Declaration

3. Cumulation note:
The current transitional phase focuses on accepting existing documents to ensure continuity of exports. After full ratification, the new system will expand cumulation rules to include a wider Euro-Mediterranean group, not only Egypt and the EU.

Nowlun tip:
If your shipment is destined for Europe, always ensure your origin documents (EUR.1 or Origin Declaration) comply with the transitional period to avoid delays or loss of customs exemptions.
