The shipping company Maersk announced that one of its vessels has transited from the Bab el-Mandeb Strait into the Red Sea, en route to the Suez Canal, marking the company’s first such passage in two years.
Maersk clarified that this transit comes despite the absence of clear plans at present to fully reopen the Suez Canal route across its service network.
In a statement, the company noted that while this move represents a notable development, it does not indicate that Maersk has reached a stage of considering a broad change to its east–west network, nor a full return to routing via the Suez Canal.
