Trial operations have officially begun at Red Sea Container Terminal No. (1) at Sokhna Port, which is operated by the Hutchison – CMA – COSCO consortium, marking a significant addition to Egypt’s logistics infrastructure.
The terminal received its first vessel at the quay, CMA CGM HELIUM, operated by CMA CGM and arriving from Singapore, signaling the start of actual operational activities at the terminal.
The terminal is fully automated, relying on smart operating systems across all operational components, from management systems to ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, ensuring high performance levels and operational efficiency.
Terminal management is supported by an integrated suite of digital solutions, most notably:
- A Terminal Operating System (TOS) for real-time container movement control
- Advanced tracking systems using GPS and RFID
- Central control rooms for crane operations and yard monitoring
- Environmentally friendly technologies aimed at reducing emissions and maximizing energy efficiency
Operations at the terminal are set to be conducted in accordance with the highest international standards, enhancing Sokhna Port’s ability to accommodate major global shipping lines and reinforcing Egypt’s position as a key logistics hub within global supply chains and international trade.
